CT 18 – Hercules

Hercules
A student poem by Aneesa Mohamed

Today I want to remember HERCULES

He was enslaved by the wealthy Captain Thomas Hosmer, townsman from West Hartford.

I guess I’ll never know where he came from.

He was baptized in 1742. I wonder was he forced?

He died at age 32 from cold weather in the mountains.

I keep wondering: What were his dreams, goals, and aspirations?

But Hercules should not be forgotten.

He was not included in Capt. Hosmer’s will,

I wonder was he ever going to be freed? Was there ever a smile on his face?

When I think about him, I see a hard-worker. Perhaps one who would tend animals.

I believe if he was freed, the sun would have shined on him.

Today I want to remember HERCULES
